Skin Concerns

Not sure which treatment you need? Start with what is bothering you. Below are the concerns we see most often, what is usually going on underneath, and the treatments that address them.

Sensitive, reactive skin

Skin that stings, flushes or reacts to products other people use happily. More often than not the barrier — the skin’s outer defence — has been worn down, by over-exfoliating, strong actives, or simply too many products at once. Until that barrier is rebuilt, corrective treatment tends to make things worse rather than better, so we calm and strengthen first and treat second.

Dehydrated, tight skin

Skin that feels tight, looks a little crepey, and seems permanently thirsty — no amount of cream seems to quench it. Dehydration is about water rather than oil. Fine lines look more pronounced than they really are, and makeup tends to cling rather than sit smoothly. The answer is rarely a heavier cream: it is getting water into the skin and repairing the barrier that holds it there, which is why dehydrated and sensitive skin so often go hand in hand.

Fine lines and early ageing

Lines that have started to stay put, and skin that does not bounce back the way it used to. Collagen and elastin are what give skin its firmness, and production begins slowing from your twenties, with sun exposure speeding it along. The treatments that help are the ones that prompt your skin to make more of its own, which is why they work gradually over a course rather than overnight.

Perimenopausal and menopausal skin

Skin can change faster in these years than at any other time in adult life. As oestrogen falls, collagen is lost rapidly — far quicker than the steady decline of earlier decades — and skin that seemed fine a year ago can start to look thinner and drier, with lines that were fine becoming noticeably deeper. Firmness goes along the jaw and cheeks, and skin that was never sensitive can begin reacting to products it has used happily for years.

This is the stage where maintaining collagen matters most, because holding on to it is far easier than trying to rebuild it later. Treatments that prompt your own collagen production, supported by the right home care, are what make the difference. The earlier you start, the easier it is to hold on to what you have — but it is never too late to begin. Skin keeps responding at every age, and there is always something to work with.

Acne and congestion

Blocked pores, blackheads and breakouts that keep coming back. Oil, dead cells and bacteria combine inside the follicle, and hormones, stress and the wrong products all feed it. Congestion sits below the surface and usually needs clearing before anything else will work properly. It generally takes a combination of treatments over a few months rather than one visit, alongside home care that is not working against you.

Pigmentation and sun damage

Brown patches, age spots and uneven tone, usually the result of years of sun rather than anything recent. Pigment sits at different depths, and not all of it behaves the same way. This matters more here than with any other concern, because the wrong approach can make pigmentation worse rather than better: hormonal pigmentation reacts badly to heat and to aggressive resurfacing, and treating it as though it were sun damage can bring it back darker and more stubborn than it was. Working out which type you are dealing with comes first, every time. Pigmentation is also an ongoing plan rather than a one-off treatment, and the right home care does as much of the work as anything done in the salon — without it, sun and hormones simply put back what the treatment has taken away.

Redness, rosacea and broken capillaries

Facial redness, flushing, and the fine red veins that show through around the nose and cheeks. Rosacea often shows up this way. It is a medical condition, so diagnosis and any medication is a matter for your GP or dermatologist — what we do is work alongside that. Rosacea is managed rather than cured: it settles with the right routine and flares with triggers like heat, sun, alcohol and stress. Treat it as an ongoing management plan rather than a one-off fix, and the difference over time can be considerable.

Dull, tired skin

Skin that looks flat and grey, with makeup sitting on top of it rather than sinking in. Cell turnover slows with age, illness and stress, so the dead layer lingers longer and scatters light instead of reflecting it. Clearing it is usually the quickest visible change of anything on this page, which is why these treatments suit a wedding or an event.

Scarring, texture and open pores

Indents left behind by old breakouts, rough texture, and pores that look larger than they used to. Scarring is a change in the skin’s structure rather than its colour, so it needs something that works at depth and prompts the skin to rebuild itself. Expect gradual improvement over a course rather than a single dramatic result.

Dermatitis and eczema

Dry, itchy, inflamed patches that come and go, often in the same places, and triggered by anything from detergents and fragrance to stress and cold weather. These are medical skin conditions, so diagnosis and any medication is a matter for your GP or dermatologist. What we can do is work alongside that — calming the skin, supporting a barrier that is struggling, and helping you work out which products and triggers are making it worse.

Skin changes on GLP-1 weight loss medication

The medication works, and the skin often shows it. Losing weight quickly means losing facial volume quickly, and skin that has been stretched does not shrink back at the same pace — so the face can look hollower, softer along the jaw and more lined than before, even though nothing has gone wrong. Appetite suppression plays a part too: eating a good deal less usually means less protein, and protein is what your skin builds collagen from.

Being straight with you, a facial cannot replace lost volume — that is a conversation for a cosmetic physician. What we can work on is the quality of the skin itself: stimulating collagen, firming and smoothing texture, and getting hydration back into skin that has thinned. Kellie’s training covers nutrition alongside dermal science, so that side of it is part of the conversation too.
